Abstract:	車牌定位技術在自動車牌辨識系統中是非常重要的一個部分。車牌定位的最主要目的，是將影像中的車牌區域擷取出來，然後再把此區域的像素值輸入到一個文字辨識系統去進行辨識的工作。所以，車牌定位的正確性將會影響到車牌辨識的最終結果。本研究提出的方法是架構於空間域下，藉由邊緣檢測技術與臨界值法來定位出，所有可能為待測車牌邊緣的一些垂直線段。在這些候選的線段中，再進一步限制其長度並利用車牌的長寬比例大約保持一定值的事實，便可以精確地取得正確的車牌區域。
