Abstract: Discrete wavelet transform (DWT) is a very useful tool for several applications, including signal coding, signal analysis, and image compression. This paper proposes a new folded architecture and an associated scheduling algorithm for computing 2-D discrete wavelet transform. The new architecture consists of three decimation filters and two storage units. Compared with other 2-D DWT architectures, the proposed architecture has the advantages of low hardware cost and fast computing time.
