Abstract: This paper presents an experimental study of wide beamwidth of the circularly polarized (CP) radiation. The CP radiation is obtained by mounting a truncated-corner square patch antenna with a pyramidal horn ground structure. Experiments show that the 3 dB beamwidth of the CP radiation can be achieved to be more than 120, which is about 40 greater than that of a corresponding regular microstrip antenna. The experimental results for operating in 1575-MHz GPS band are presented and discussed.
