Abstract: Studies of multi-millijoule pulse generation revealed ultimate peak-power generation limits set by bulk damage and self-focusing in large-core fibers. Ultrashort pulse or narrow-linewidth amplification is more stringently limited by Raman and Brillouin scattering, and self-phase-modulation.
