Abstract: This paper employs rigid-plastic finite element (FE) DEFORMTM 2D software to investigate the plastic deformation behavior of a composite aluminum-copper alloy wire as it is drawn through a conical die. The FE simulations focus specifically on the respective effects of the die semi-cone angle, the friction factor and the core diameter of the drawn wire on the die load, the diameter ratio of the composite wire at the die exit, and the fracture, damage factor and effective strain distributions. The simulation results confirm the suitability of the DEFORMTM 2D software for analyzing the drawing of composite aluminum-copper alloy wire.
