Abstract: Utilizing commercial DEFORMTM 2D rigid-plastic finite element software, this study performs a series of simulations to investigate the plastic deformation behavior of Ti-6Al-4V titanium alloy during one-turn and two-turn changing channel angular (CCA) extrusion processes in which the two square channels within the die are configured such that they form internal angles of φ =90o and 120o, respectively. The simulations focus specifically on the effects of the numbers of turns in the die set, the internal angle, the channel side length, the friction factor and the temperature on the distributions of the effective strain, damage and effective stress, respectively, within the extruded billet. The numerical results are qualitatively compared with experimental observations of CCA extrusion processes performed using plastic extrusion dies and a clay billet. The results presented in this study provide valuable insights into the shear plastic deformation behavior of Ti-6Al-4V titanium alloy during the CCA extrusion process and confirm the suitability of DEFORMTM 2D rigid-plastic finite element software as a modeling tool for CCA extrusion processing.
