This paper tries to use Geographic Information System(GIS to analyze both
the history and space development about Bong Son Ba She’s land rental situation in
the beginning of Japanese colonial period. Meanwhile, it shows various forms and
distribution of rent amount about Bong Son Ba She ‘s aborigine rent rights. This paper
discovers that before colonial government bought large rent rights in the beginning of
Japanese colonial period, Bong Sons controlled more than 70 percent of rents. When we
compare the studies between John R. Shepherd’s observation on Taipei area and Chih-
Ming Ka’s on Xin-zhu area, Bong Son Ba She ‘s rental situation is similar to the former
one. Put it simply, the ethnic politics brought up by Chih-Ming Ka are less obvious.
On the other hand, according to the space distribution based on the statistics and
analysis on Bong Son Ba She ‘s rent amount which is from public, private as well as Han
people’s substituting for them to gather, this paper discovers that both Tong-Siao She and
Ri-Bei-She relied on the rental income from Ali-Keen area, no matter in public or private
rent rights.
Last, according to the rental space distribution of Bong Son Ba She, it roughly shows
three rental spaces: Han-Keen Area(the Reclamation Area of the Han, Ai-Tun Area and
Fan Han Hun Keen Area. The rent rights of the former two areas were affected most by
official policy. And Fan Han Hun Keen Area were partly plowed by the Shu Fan till the
beginning of Japanese colonial period. Various Shes of Shu Fan tried hard to reserve
this area, the only area reserved under the policy of buying rent rights by Japanese
government.
