Title: 外文教課書對推動普通物理教學革新之影響

Abstract: 本文主旨在論述現行外文教科書的設計對目前普通物理教學成效的提昇,可能已經造成關鍵性的阻礙。在台灣,來自美國的普物英文教科書似乎挾著其 made in USA的招牌,擁有其崇高的權威,在課程設計中扮演著主導地位,儼然成為國內普物課程的最高指導原則。然而,來自西方國家的研究文獻指稱,現行普物教科書的設計並未隨著學習理論之發展而更新,這種落差可能使得教科書的使用成為推動普物教學改革的絆腳石,進而阻礙教學成效之提昇。
本文主體包含三部份:
1.討論現有國外文獻針對現行的普物教科書的缺失所提出之批評及建議;
2.依據作者在逢甲大學所蒐集而得的大一學生對現行普物課程設計之意見,予以論述,並對證現有文獻之論點;
3.歸納國外文獻及作者在國內研究所得之意見,對台灣現有普物教學提出原則性之建議 。
This paper argues that conventional textbooks may have resulted in barriers impeding the teaching outcomes in introductory physics in Taiwan. The design of the mainstream physics textbook stays in stagnation, despite the burgeoning literature on innovation of physics education in recent decades. The design of the textbooks appears to be superficial and inappropriate with respect to the updated notions of science/physics education research. However, the textbooks imported from America seem to possess authority in Taiwan, which may strictly convey the agenda of the teaching design to physics lecturers. The inappropriateness of the conventional textbook design and its undoubted status may have contributed to unsatisfactory teaching outcomes.
This paper includes three main parts:
1. The discussion of the major concerns of conventional textbook design based on the literature in physics education,
2. The investigations of the students’ situations and opinions toward the current course design of introductory physics in Taiwan, most of which are reflected in the assertions of the literature,
3. The summary of the literature and the findings in Taiwan, and the suggestions to physics lecturers in Taiwan when adopting textbooks in teaching design.
It is suggested that lecturers’ critical attitudes toward the adoption of textbooks may be the first step to improve the current teaching outcomes.
