Abstract: The effects of ultraviolet (UV) irradiation on the electrical properties of pentacene were investigated in this study. Spectroscopic methods and electrical conductivity measurements were used to characterize the conducting molecule pentacene with and without UV irradiation. In addition, the contact resistance between a Au electrode and pentacene was studied by the transfer length method. The authors found that UV irradiation could lead to the heightened conductivity of pentacene and a reduction in contact resistance at the Au/pentacene interface, resulting from the incorporation of oxygen and the deformation of the C–H bond generated by the insertion of oxygen between the pentacene layers.
