Abstract: A compact holographic collimator is presented for the reconstruction of display holograms. The diffracted 3D image from a display hologram can be observed through the illumination of the holographic collimator. A compact active holographic display can be achieved by switching the internal light source of the holographic collimator to control the diffraction of the 3D image.
