Abstract:

A Study of Parent-Child Relationships and Deviant Behavior among Junior High School Students in Nantou County

Ta-chi Liao

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationships of parent-child relationships to deviant behavior among junior high school students in Nantou County. The survey data were collected from 982 students and analyzed by descriptive statistics, one-way MANOVA, Pearson’s product-moment correlation, and hierarchical regression analysis.
The results of the study revealed that students’ parent-child relationships were basically in fair conditions and there was no serious case found on deviant behavior. There were significant differences in parent-child relationships and deviant behavior in relation to students’ background variables. Deviant behavior was predicted significantly by students’ background variables and parent-child relationships.

Keywords: junior high school students, parent-child relationships,
