本研究的目的旨在探討國中學生父母教養方式與英語學習動機之間的關係,以苗栗縣、台中縣、台中巿、南投縣、彰化縣國中生為研究母群,共1,035份問卷為研究樣本,並獲得結論如下:國中生之父母多採「開明權威」教養方式,英語學習動機尚稱良好。國中生之英語學習動機因性別、年級、學習英語時間、有無出國經驗、父母社經地位與父母教養方式而有所差異。國中生的父母教養方式因家庭社經地位背景、子女的年級不同而有顯著差異。父母教養方式之「關懷取向」、「權威取向」皆與英語學習動機呈正相關。國中生之父母教養方式能預測英語學習動機之高低,在父母教養方式中,以「關懷取向」為主要的預測變項。
根據上述結論,本研究提出下列建議:(一)父母應多採取「開明權威」的教養方式,並提供子女多元的英語接觸機會。(二)學校應多舉辦多元的英語學習活動,並協助辦理親職教育與社區進修活動。(三)英語教育工作者,加強親師溝通,對於低學習動機學生加強輔導,找出原因。(四)在未來研究方面,可擴及其它縣市,可納入質化方法,並涵括其他相關變項一併探討,以使英語動機的研究更加周全。
Abstract
The purpose of this study was to explore the relationships between junior high school students’ parenting styles and English learning motivation, and to understand whether these students’ parenting styles and English learning motivation had significant differences based on personal background. Also, predictions based on parenting styles versus English learning motivation were made.
The study employed a questionnaire of 1,035 junior high school students. The findings of this study were as follows: English learning motivation among current junior high school students was at a high-intermediary level. Second, there were significant differences in English learning motivation among students according to differences in gender, grade, family social economic status, period of learning English and experience of going abroad. Third, there was a positive correlation between junior high school students’ English learning motivation and parenting styles, both in “loving” and “authority”. Finally, there was a significant prediction for English learning motivation and “loving” is the main predictor.
According to the findings of this study, suggestions were provided to parents, English teachers, junior high schools and future studies.
