Title: Teaching Young Children About Natural Disaster in a Tsou Aboriginal Classroom: Action Research

Abstract: Using action research, this study aims to investigate the implementation and effectof young children`s natural disaster curriculum in a Tsou aboriginal classroom. The first author and perschool teacher served as co-teachers and taught the Tsou young children who suffered through Typhoon Morakot in 2009. Through science and arts integration activities, the young children learned about their disastous environment, and furher learned about science concepts of wind, rain, and typhoon. The lessons spanned three months betwen November 2009 and January 2010. Data sources included classroom observation, young children`s interviews (pre-interviews and post-interviews), young children`s artwork, co-teacher`s interviews, co-teacher`s feedback on teaching, and reflection notes on teaching.
