Title: Taiwan Mathematics Teachers Remodel Their Teaching Model via Doing and Conducting Modeling Activity in Classrooms

Abstract: This article reports what really happen on their deep thoughts about teaching when a group of five
Taiwan teachers conducting a Taiwan version Big Foot modeling activity in their mathematics classrooms. First,
the five teachers modified the ‘Big Foot’ modeling activity into a Taiwan version as “Who saved the oriental
cherries?” by translation and modified the situations to fit Taiwan students’ social and cultural background and
everyday life experiences. Secondly, they went through the modeling activity and revised the activity and their
teaching strategies. Finally, they conducted the modeling activity in their own mathematics classrooms, using
PCDC (Chang, 1995) instructional model by small group discussion and whole class discussion, cooperative
learning, presenting and sharing their ideas and thoughts. Data collections included reflection journals, interview
reports and videotapes of the meetings. According to our preliminary findings, it was found that the teaching
models of these teachers have been changed, especially their beliefs and values were changed also, such as these
teachers showed that they cared about the learning motivation very much, and less control and less intervene can
highly accepted by the teachers after implementing the modeling activity.
