This study attempts to research gender issue in Taiwan romance fiction and film
adaptation. This thesis uses text analysis research to analyze the text meaning in both
Qiong-Yao’s romance novel and 80’s romance novel, which were adapted into films. We also
comparative both romance novels and films in the politics of woman’s body, which concerns
sex and appearance, and try to find the constructed woman image and the meanings of gender
in which one is conservative. This study will discuss Taiwanese women films in the
1960-1980s, and focus on the representation of scenes in commercial movies. It also
discusses women’s consciousness in female/male director’s works and how much control a
woman issue can have in a male dominated industry.
